Join Professor John Brown a (world-renowned jazz musician, Director of the Duke Jazz Program & Bell Tower Faculty-in-Residence) for a tour of Durham’s Somerhill Gallery followed by lunch at one of Durham's hotspots. Prof. Brown is taking interested students to the Somerhill Gallery for an interactive and unique behind the scenes look at this prominent gallery.
Abstract and representational artwork in all visual disciplines is on display in the gallery's spacious 9,600 square foot setting. Designed by award-winning architect Philip Szostak, Somerhill's environment of continuously unfolding gallery spaces leads art aficionados through fine art glass and jewelry, a contemporary photography gallery, an open-air glass atrium which stands at the center of the main salon where featured exhibitions are shown. White oak floors, fabric walls and over 40 skylights make it an oasis to the sophisticated traveler. Fine art glass and art jewelry created by nationally recognized craftspeople can also be found in the gallery's architecturally significant space.
