Politics and Milkshakes in Historic Pittsboro

Dr. Michael Munger

Abstract - Join political scientist Mike Munger, who also ran for governor of North Carolina on the Libertarian ticket, for a walking tour of historic Pittsboro. Founded in 1787, Pittsboro has kept its small-town flavor very well. County seat of Chatham County, Pittsboro has retained the traditional "courthouse and Confederate soldier statue" typical of small towns in NC in the early 1900s.

We will walk around the downtown, talk about the complex history of race and politics in central NC, and then spend an hour looking around in the antique stores and shops. Then, we'll have lunch, and old-fashioned hand-mixed malted milkshakes at the historic S&T Soda Shop, a central NC landmark.

You'll need comfortable walking shoes, and either a hat or sunscreen, or both.
