East Campus & Surrounding Areas – Walking Tour

Dr. Robert Healy

Did you know that Madonna lived on East Campus and took dance lessons here? That the university's first basketball game took place on East and the father of Duke basketball lived across the street?  That child labor persisted in a Ninth Street textile mill well into the 20th century?  That a nearby neighborhood is one of the nation’s best examples of New Urbanism?  This two-hour tour will introduce you to the secret places of East Campus and its neighborhoods, ending with refreshments at a faculty member’s home.
